How to develop a website: Website Outline

An outline website is just what the name says ... a written outline of the content of your website. Although it feels as if knowing each title and the phrase on the website that you are creating, once a site is online it is very difficult to remember the real order of things.

Having a website profile helps provide a mental image of the site, sections, subsections and content pages. This will also serve as a useful guide when you set the navigation scheme. You will be able to better see the path you want your visitors to follow.

Keeping track of graphics and links

It 'a good idea to list all images and links, and which pages you find. When you decide to change one of them, with the names of files you will save a lot of time.

I realize this may seem Iike a lot of paperwork for something that is going to be on the Internet. But I can tell you (painful experience) that you will appreciate having written documentation and use more than you can imagine.

You can create a profile site in any way that is most meaningful to you. A journal, ledger pad, or even a spreadsheet of data would work great. Use what works best for you.

File Organization Site

1) Keep your website organized in the same way you organize your hard drive as on the Internet.

2) Keep the files used in the index file and used several times in the root directory. But do not overload the root directory.

3) Create a subdirectory for each set of related pages.

4) Plan for expansion. If you think a page on a particular theme will be expanded in a series of pages, create a subdirectory for it.

5) Keep the files that belong in every page in the same subdirectory (except those in the root directory)

6) Name your subdirectories and files in an easy to identify.

Do not change the names of files and subdirectories (and html page addresses) after the fact. Name and address now in a way that you will be able to maintain in the future, no matter how it expands. (Save us all from broken links!)

If you must change an address after your website is, then put a redirect page or a link to the old position.
