Teaching English Language to Improve Competition

In order to develop language skills, is designed activities in which students use the foreign language by applying it to real situations as possible, activating prior knowledge to address the solution of every problem. In this way, develop strategies that can then be transferred to new situations, thus producing an appropriation of the foreign language by every student.

The teaching of English based on core competencies

In order to facilitate understanding of this teaching methodology, there are some examples of activities that facilitate the immersion of students. To do this, we have chosen the context of an airport, and that in almost every country in the world the information is available in the local language and English.

At all times, the teacher's task will be the facilitator to guide students at their request, but only as temporary scaffolding and never translated into Spanish.

Suggested activities for the classroom

1, motivational video presentation accelerated English, so that they begin to question the stereotypes that we have towards learning the English language.

2 º Making an interactive, using tools such as Moodle, about the content (words and phrases) that should be mastered to function at an airport in an English speaking country.

3 ° will visit various websites of airports in English speaking countries for using a travel dictionary, translated and recorded in tables accelerated English (following the method proposed by the world record holder in storage Ramon Campayo) those terms essential to function in an airport.

4 º small viewing videos of situations at airports so that students become familiar with the phrases that can take place in

interactions that take place in the airport and she should record those that seem essential.

5 ° is viewed instructional videos so that students know the instrument C-map, to develop a semantic map that involves vocabulary and expressions selected, linking and categorizing them to facilitate their integration, and accompanying image (following the method Berltiz ) to fix the concepts.

6 The students will visit the local airport to check your level of integration of content worked. To do this, there may be a treasure hunt game where every student has to solve a series of tests using the English language.

7 The students will make a small test to check individual using Moodle the real level of acquisition of the contents worked.

8 th Students will review the initial questionnaire to self-assess their progress and establish a dialogue between the whole class to discuss the changes in their perceptions and attributions that after the learning experience, make towards learning a foreign language.

Develop language skills by the students:

* Implement metacognitive strategies and self-assessment and evaluation to learn from mistakes.

* Use cognitive strategies such as note taking, organization of ideas and practice the skill independently.

* Acquire affective strategies such as relaxation and concentration on the task.

* Practice social strategies such as interaction with English people to organize, evaluate and practice development in the use of different skills.

Importantly, this methodology requires a high level of advance preparation by the teacher, so do not get discouraged if the first experiences carried out with the students do not go as planned. The road of constructivism as everything is working continuously and collaboratively, based both on own experience and observations that make us both students and fellow teachers.
